Laptop Asus A6TC Debian Linux Configuration HowTo

last modification: 27-09-2007

OS

Debian Sid i386. Plans: amd64 architecture. It depends on lack of packages (flash player or sth.).

I run also Gentoo amd64 multilib since 2 days ;).

Kernel

Debian: I use 2.6.22.5 kerel version without any patches. You can download my current minimalistic .config here. Recompilation takes about 12 minutes. Plans: suspend2 patch.

Gentoo amd64 config .

CPU

I use cpufreqd daemon to change CPU scaling governor. My /etc/cpufreqd.conf file. I have performance module compiled into kernel, so i add other scaling modules to /etc/modules and remove don't needed modules in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.

Motherboard

Remember to use the newest BIOS version, which prevents laptop from overheating. You can download flash rom from ASUStek website.

GPU

Present nvidia drivers from Debian Sid repository are broken! That version (100.14.11-1) freezes system. The best way is to wait for new drivers from nvidia using the last beta drivers (ie. these ) for i386 linux.

Ethernet

There was a problem with lan card, but everything is ok with r8169 kernel module right now.

Wireless

I think bcm43xx kernel module doesn't work because of signal stregth problems so i decided to use ndiswrapper. Works great!

Webcam

People from syntekdriver team did a great job. Now we can watch our face even in wengophone ;). Being serious - you should compile the newset checkout from svn and be happy to use well done driver.

Thanks

Great Gentoo wiki about our notebook.
